Throughout this whole year, I feel as though I have been able to incorporate many of the Artistic Behaviors in the artwork that I have created. As I have had such freedom to create what I wanted in this class, I was able to work on my own interests and at my own pace. I used many different mediums, and since our class was so large and had a variety of levels of skill, I always felt as though I had the best input for whatever it was that I was making at that moment.
My favorite unit definitely had to be the water color. I strived to better my skills and I loved working with the water colors. I feel as though I did a very good job bettering myself with that medium and my skills have advanced further. While I also liked working with the acrylic paints and other different mediums, I was definitely more fond of working with the water colors. I also really liked working with the black india ink. I was able to incorporate it into different pieces where I used watercolor as well and I feel the contrast that I was able to create was very strong. On the other hand, I wasn’t a huge fan of any of the units where I had to draw. I am not very strong in that area of art and I did not enjoy working in that unit. Something that was both a good and bad was the self directed nature of the course. I am not someone who likes being told to do a certain project, and therefore I really benefited from being able to pick my own projects and work with the mediums that I most enjoyed. While it’s not a specific unit, I did not enjoy when I was forced to do a certain project and I would have much rather chosen my own course of action for different projects that I was doing. Working along those lines, I would not change much about this class. I liked the freedom that came along with being in Art 2. However, if there was one thing I would change it would be to not force the students to participate in projects that Art 1 is working on or force the Art 2 students to do specific projects. I feel that if a person is continuously working on projects, then there should be no need to direct them further. It would be more beneficial to allow to student to further their skills in the area that they desire. There was one specific project that I was very proud of. I used acrylic paint to depict a sunset with the silhouettes of cacti. I was very happy with the way I was able to blend the colors and that I was able to create something so beautiful. There was one project in particular that I had a very personal connection to. I painted a photo of a cardinal in a tree for my grandmother for Christmas. It was a very special gift and I’m really happy that I had the opportunity to make that for her. Overall I really enjoyed my time in this class and I’m very happy that I could take this class this year.

For this project, I worked in layers. In order to make sure there was depth within the painting, I did all the reds and yellows first, then I added the black layer for the silhouette and then finally the blue for the sky and the water. Unfortunately, I do not have a finished photo of the painting because it is hanging up in our library, but I added dandelions to make sure there was a little bit more to the painting. I used different techniques that I had learned in order to blend it all together and make sure that it still looked right. I am very happy with the way it turned out and I am happy I was able to better my painting skills through this project.
For this project I worked really hard to get the different values. I developed new skills working with the acrylic paint. First, I did a base coat of white and then mixed many different values of blue in order to highlight the different parts of the painting. Then I used a few different brushes and mainly just dabbed the paint on in different sections in order to make the ocean separate from the sky. I then painted the boat on and added a slight shadow below it on the water. I am very happy with the way it came out.
This project was something that I really enjoyed doing. Using water color as a media is one of my favorite methods of creating art, so I was very happy that I was able to continue developing my skills in this lesson. The first image was my first time using the liquid water colors, and so I was able to try out new things and work with them to create unique artwork. The next set of images is part of something that I worked on the other day. I was taking risks by mixing the different colors in order to further develop my skills. Through this process I was able to realize that I really liked working with the liquid water colors.
This project is still a work in progress. My teacher introduced the project of embroidery to us as a class and I took on a very ambitious project. Through this process, I am learning different stitches and developing my skills further. The colors I have chosen so far I really like and I feel like they work really well together. I decided to take it one color at a time and work at it slowly to hopefully have a completed project by the end of the year.
This project is an independent project that I wanted to work on. After working with Gesso on my last project, I decided that I wanted to do another project with it. I mixed the Gesso with red paint to make the pink for the background. I then went in with white paint to make the dots around the edges and the big white hearts as well as the little while hearts. I was going to leave it at that, but I felt that it looked too bare and decided to add some more color to it. Since it is a Valentine's Day gift, I went in with a little red paint to add more dots and hearts within the smaller hearts to add an extra pop of color and I really liked how it turned out. Finally, I mixed the red and white paint to make pink and wrote a little message within the big heart. This all came together really quickly due to the fact that I had made a previous piece of art and didn't like the way it turned out at all. I was forced to problem solve and this is what I came up with. Throughout the whole process, I was working with new skills that I had developed as well as gaining intelligence on other new skills that I hadn't worked with as much and I'm really happy with the way this project turned out.
This project was an independent project that I made as a present for my sister Jamie for her birthday. I found the idea on Pinterest, and while the shapes of the dinosaurs aren't my own original art, I found a way to make them my own. I started by covering the boards in black and white Gesso to make sure that there would be even coverage. Then, I traced the shape of the dinosaur and outlined them in black to make a clean frame for the color on the inside. My next step was to mix my colors and I worked really hard to make sure they were more on the pastel side. I had to overcome the challenge of time as I didn't really have a lot of time to work and I was forced to problem solve. I also developed new skills of mixing paint as I had to do trial and error a few times to make sure the color was perfect. I worked collaboratively with the people around me to collect suggestions on different aspects of the dinosaurs and I'm really happy with the way they came out and my sister loves them.
This was mainly an experimental project. I wanted to work on my skills working with acrylic paint, so I decided to blend colors to make the background more complex. Each color is distinct but there is an obvious connection between them. Initially, I had a different idea for where I was going with this project after the background was painted, but I decided to use inspiration from Pinterest and create a more simplistic painting. I used only black and white paint with a very thin brush to create the dandelion and I am very satisfied with how it turned out. I effectively developed new skills and solved problems throughout the entire process of creating this piece. I was met with problems with inspiration, but in the end I think the piece is very clean and I'm glad I decided to go this direction with the piece.
This project was inspired by something I found online but in the end I made it very unique. I used regular acrylic paint to make the background and initially I wasn't very happy with it. It was turning out more purple than blue for my liking so I had to problem solve quite a bit to make it how I wanted it. It still appears to be a little bit flat so I know to work on that next time. After painting the background and the elephant, I was kind of left in a slump. I didn't know what I wanted to do with the piece and I was left grasping at nothing basically. Finally, I was given the idea by my art teacher to use the big blue beads as water coming out of the trunk. I knew I wanted to do something like this but I didn't really know how to achieve it. I worked with new materials to create a more 3D piece than what I was used to. After discovering the blue beads to use on the background, I went a step further and found smaller pieces to use on top of the elephant to give it the same sort of feel as the water. I'm really happy with the skills that I developed and the way I was able to collaborate with my teacher and my peers directly to make a piece that I am very satisfied with.
This project was made as a Christmas present for my grandmother. I knew I wanted to do something with a cardinal since they have a special meaning for my family, so this is the project that I decided to do. I began with a very very light colored background and built off of it from there. To create the branches in the background, I watered down the blue paint to make sure they would be lighter than those in the foreground, giving the piece a greater feeling of depth. This concept was brought to my attention by one of my peers who helped me throughout the whole project. I was introduced to new methods of creating art and I was taking risks continuously. I was very nervous to paint each layer because I was nervous I would mess up the previous layer but in the end, I went into everything head on and the outcome really benefited from the collaboration and the risk taking and problem solving that this project contained.
