Throughout this whole year, I feel as though I have been able to incorporate many of the Artistic Behaviors in the artwork that I have created. As I have had such freedom to create what I wanted in this class, I was able to work on my own interests and at my own pace. I used many different mediums, and since our class was so large and had a variety of levels of skill, I always felt as though I had the best input for whatever it was that I was making at that moment.
My favorite unit definitely had to be the water color. I strived to better my skills and I loved working with the water colors. I feel as though I did a very good job bettering myself with that medium and my skills have advanced further. While I also liked working with the acrylic paints and other different mediums, I was definitely more fond of working with the water colors. I also really liked working with the black india ink. I was able to incorporate it into different pieces where I used watercolor as well and I feel the contrast that I was able to create was very strong. On the other hand, I wasn’t a huge fan of any of the units where I had to draw. I am not very strong in that area of art and I did not enjoy working in that unit. Something that was both a good and bad was the self directed nature of the course. I am not someone who likes being told to do a certain project, and therefore I really benefited from being able to pick my own projects and work with the mediums that I most enjoyed. While it’s not a specific unit, I did not enjoy when I was forced to do a certain project and I would have much rather chosen my own course of action for different projects that I was doing. Working along those lines, I would not change much about this class. I liked the freedom that came along with being in Art 2. However, if there was one thing I would change it would be to not force the students to participate in projects that Art 1 is working on or force the Art 2 students to do specific projects. I feel that if a person is continuously working on projects, then there should be no need to direct them further. It would be more beneficial to allow to student to further their skills in the area that they desire. There was one specific project that I was very proud of. I used acrylic paint to depict a sunset with the silhouettes of cacti. I was very happy with the way I was able to blend the colors and that I was able to create something so beautiful. There was one project in particular that I had a very personal connection to. I painted a photo of a cardinal in a tree for my grandmother for Christmas. It was a very special gift and I’m really happy that I had the opportunity to make that for her. Overall I really enjoyed my time in this class and I’m very happy that I could take this class this year.
