Dear Mrs. Haggerty, I am writing to you from Blue Niagara. Everything here is just so beautiful I could remain here for hours. The rushing water has literally created a sound barrier between me and the rest of the world. It’s almost deafening how loud the water hitting the river at the bottom is, but then you feel the splash of the water spray hitting your face and you feel fully immersed in nature. The water is almost like a pale blue, you can’t see deep into it because the current is just so strong that the white waves mask the bottom. It almost feels like a rural area around me which adds to the peaceful vibe of the whole area. I wish you could see this with me, I know you would appreciate this beauty. Amanda Guindon This is a piece that I am super proud of. We were tasked with the idea of creating something that we have never seen and we never will. I immediately thought of the depths of the ocean, and so I decided to create a scene where we saw the ocean life at the bottom of the sea. At first, I was using the artistic behavior "Develop new skills" and I was using a quill and ink to create all the little drawings. from all the outlines of the creatures and sea life I tried to do a little bit of pointillism as well to create more dimension in each of the the different elements. I also incorporated the artistic behavior "Work Collaboratively" and I continuously asked the people around me what they thought about certain things and if I should add different colors and things like that. Overall this has been my favorite thing that I have created and I'm really happy with the skills that I developed and how the final piece came out.
For this piece we were asked to create something modeled after a complaint that we had. The Guerrilla Girls inspired this movement by working on complaints and creating artwork to showcase things in the world that need to be complained about. Working off of this idea, I thought about the things that I care most about in the world that I think need more recognition. My first thought of course was equality. For this peace, I created something that displayed my thoughts on this subject. I mainly worked with watercolors and blending them together to create a gradient across the colors of the flowers and I think this created a nice effect. I also focused on filling all the negative space between the flowers so that there was a more realistic feel to the piece. I finally finished the piece and I'm really proud of how things came together. The artistic behaviors that I used when creating this list were "Develop new skills" "Work collaboratively" "Create original art" and "Reflect". We reflected about halfway through the art work process and asked our peers what else we could do to our piece and from there we continued working and came to the end of the process.
