This project was meant as a Christmas present for my mom. She loved the ocean so I knew I wanted to do something with that. I started with the waves and used a paper towel with the acrylic paint in order to create the texture of the waves. Looking back on the project I should have started with the sand and continued from there, but everything worked out in the end. I used the same method for the sand as I used for the waves to create more texture. To build further, I drew the starfish first and then mixed the paint for them and filled them in. To attempt to create some sort of depth, I added a small drop shadow to some parts of the starfish and then added the lighter color dots to make them look more realistic than just plain. Although my teacher wanted me to go further with the drop shadow, I was scared that I would mess something up so I decided to just leave it at that and in the end I was happy with the way the piece turned out. I tried new things like adding texture and attempting a drop shadow and I worked collaboratively with my classmates through each step of this piece as I value their input. Although I used reference photos for the starfish, this piece is full of originality and I'm really happy with all the choices that I decided to make regarding the final outcome of the piece.

This is another independent project that I decided to do. I was inspired from different things that I have seen on an app and I wanted to try them out myself. This was my first time using acrylic paint and so I had to take some risks and try out some different things. I used a paint brush that was more of a sponge type material so I could blend the colors more easily. I build new skills and I was able to successfully make the background look a little bit like a sunset. I then used black paint over top of the background so it would look more like a silhouette. After all of this was dried, I developed another new skill. I used a toothbrush and some watered down acrylic white paint to splatter the painting and make it look like it was a starry night. I was able to successfully make a painting using all of the new skills that I developed and now I can work even more towards bettering my skills.
This is an independent project that I wanted to create. I wanted to experiment more with water color and the ink and so this is what I decided to make. I began the project with making the water color birds. I took many risks and I attempted to blend colors with the water color. It took me a lot of attempts to make it turn out the way I wanted to. Each time I tried something new and if it didn't turn out the way I wanted it to, I began again and tried something else. I was constantly solving problems and working my way through the project and I'm really happy with how the final project came out. The blending of the water color with the different colors worked well and the lettering at the top turned out exactly how I wanted it to.
In this project, we were tasked with the project of making a portrait. Since my skills have been limited up until this point, I spent a little bit of time developing the skills of drawing different facial features and taking risks by working with materials that I wasn't exactly used to. I used different pencils in order to get the different values and each time I drew a feature I practiced different techniques. After practicing the different features, I realized that my strengths were in the area of drawing eyes, so I decided to incorporate that into my final project. At first, I simply put the closed eyes and the tear drops with the water color. Then, I collaborated with other people in order to figure out that I would put at the bottom of the tears. It was decided that I would draw a small forest scene and make the tears touch a few trees and turn them green. I am really proud of how this piece came out and I'm really happy with the skills I developed.
Name: General Davidson
Birthday: July 4, 1776 Job: General Hobbies: riding my horse through the battlefield What are you doing today?: Probably fighting in some battle Where are you?: The beautiful country of America Who is with you?: All my men Dear Mrs. Haggerty, I am writing to you from Blue Niagara. Everything here is just so beautiful I could remain here for hours. The rushing water has literally created a sound barrier between me and the rest of the world. It’s almost deafening how loud the water hitting the river at the bottom is, but then you feel the splash of the water spray hitting your face and you feel fully immersed in nature. The water is almost like a pale blue, you can’t see deep into it because the current is just so strong that the white waves mask the bottom. It almost feels like a rural area around me which adds to the peaceful vibe of the whole area. I wish you could see this with me, I know you would appreciate this beauty. Amanda Guindon This is a piece that I am super proud of. We were tasked with the idea of creating something that we have never seen and we never will. I immediately thought of the depths of the ocean, and so I decided to create a scene where we saw the ocean life at the bottom of the sea. At first, I was using the artistic behavior "Develop new skills" and I was using a quill and ink to create all the little drawings. from all the outlines of the creatures and sea life I tried to do a little bit of pointillism as well to create more dimension in each of the the different elements. I also incorporated the artistic behavior "Work Collaboratively" and I continuously asked the people around me what they thought about certain things and if I should add different colors and things like that. Overall this has been my favorite thing that I have created and I'm really happy with the skills that I developed and how the final piece came out.
For this piece we were asked to create something modeled after a complaint that we had. The Guerrilla Girls inspired this movement by working on complaints and creating artwork to showcase things in the world that need to be complained about. Working off of this idea, I thought about the things that I care most about in the world that I think need more recognition. My first thought of course was equality. For this peace, I created something that displayed my thoughts on this subject. I mainly worked with watercolors and blending them together to create a gradient across the colors of the flowers and I think this created a nice effect. I also focused on filling all the negative space between the flowers so that there was a more realistic feel to the piece. I finally finished the piece and I'm really proud of how things came together. The artistic behaviors that I used when creating this list were "Develop new skills" "Work collaboratively" "Create original art" and "Reflect". We reflected about halfway through the art work process and asked our peers what else we could do to our piece and from there we continued working and came to the end of the process.
For this project, each person in the class was given a small section of a piece of artwork that we had to enlarge and work collaboratively to make a mural. The first thing that I did was section of the smaller piece and then use the same dimensions and mark off the same sections on the bigger piece of paper. This ensured that everything in the larger image would be proportional to that in the smaller image. After this was done, I went through each section and made an outline of all the major parts of each section. Then, once everything had a rough outline, I went in with pencils and a shading tool and began adding value to each section. This really made the image come to life. After everyone's images were done, we worked together to piece all the images together and made the mural.
Our first assignment this year was to participate in a task party. This project involved taking a prompt from a basket, and creating something completely unique. My task was to ask people what their middle names were and then I was to put them on the wall. My friend and I took this a completely different direction than a couple other people and we made paper snow flakes and wrote the middle names on them and tied them together with string and hung them up on the window. The fun thing about the task party was seeing what everyone else came up with for their tasks and seeing how creative we all could get, and how we could all work collaboratively.
